Shionne's Curse Of Thorns And You
Sep. 25th, 2021 08:08 pmQuick info post for Shionne's Curse of Thorns and how it works.
So, what is it?
A curse that manifests as thorns whenever Shionne is directly touched. These thorns appear to be made out of pure violet energy, and race along her and whoever is touching her. It's described in-game as something akin to a painful, disabling shock. It also tends to lay people out for several seconds at least, and appears to be one of the few forms of injury Shionne can't heal.
It's basically a bad time, all around.
How does it work?
In this case, direct touch means any form of direct physical contact. This applies to people wearing clothing and armor as well; her curse still registers that as a touch and lashes out, with or without skin to skin contact.
So putting a hand on her or brushing up against her or basically any form of touching = pain.
Note however that weapons and objects are NOT affected; you could poke her with a stick and while she'd glare at you something fierce, her curse wouldn't activate.
Any detailed magicy stuff I should know?
People sensitive to it will notice her thorns appear to be aligned with dark/shadow magic. They also carry a pretty large magical signature, particularly when she gets stressed out.
How much pain are we talking about?
Enough to drop a Renan soldier in full armor, and a couple of named characters with some physical toughness. All of two people in her canon are capable of powering through her curse and keeping physical contact with her.
Is she going to go around touching my character without permission and hurting them?
NOPE. Thanks to her personality and psychology, Shionne HATES dealing out pain from her curse. She doesn't like causing people pain, doesn't like the looks it earns her, or being reminded at how isolated she is. Her first impulse, at her point in canon is to shy away from people trying to be physical and telling them "don't."
What if I want my character to put a hand on her and get hurt?
Look it gives me more angst so I ain't complaining. That's fine by me, as long as we both understand what happens! (IE, a lot of pain and a lot of unhappiness.)
SPOILER 1, highlight to read: Her curse also keeps her from dying, but because that is a whole powergaming headache, that particular aspect is getting nerfed in any and all games and likely most PSLs, unless people really want to explore that.
